Curtin University Colombo Open Day 2026: Bringing Students Closer to an Australian Degree in Sri Lanka

On 20th June 2026, Curtin University Colombo (CUC) welcomed prospective students and parents through its doors for Open Day 2026 – an event designed to do more than showcase a campus. It gave families a real feel for what studying at a top-ranked Australian university in Colombo actually looks like, from academic pathways to campus life.

Setting the Tone

The day opened with a welcome address from Prof. Rebecca Walker, Pro Vice-Chancellor & President of Curtin University Colombo, who set the stage for what would be a day centered on one simple idea: making tomorrow better starts with the choices students make today.

A Panel Discussion Built on Real Student Questions

The heart of the morning was a panel discussion bringing together senior academic and industry voices, including Prof. Michelle Wilson, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Global (Academic Governance), alongside Prof. Rebecca Walker, Prof. Mahesha Kapurubandara, Ms. Anjalie Gamage, Dr. Yasas Jayaweera, Mr. Rekaz Rifki, and Mr. Shashrika De Mel.

Rather than scripted speeches, the panel tackled the questions students and parents actually have about studying at Curtin University Colombo: what it means to study a degree at a university ranked in the top 1% globally, how Curtin’s 25-year partnership with SLIIT shapes the local student experience, what makes the Global Scholars Program worth pursuing, and how the Foundation Program’s four streams – IT, Business, Engineering, and Health & Life Sciences – help students who aren’t yet sure which path to take. The conversation also covered practical ground, from transferring to Curtin’s global campuses in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius, to what a student needs to do to secure their place in the July intake.

Hands-On Activities & Campus Tours for Students and Parents

Once the panel wrapped up, students joined CUC’s student ambassadors for an interactive session full of activities, games and honest, peer-to-peer conversations about university life. Thereafter, parents and students were taken on a guided walk around the campus, getting a firsthand look at the facilities and learning environment their children would be joining.

One-on-One Admissions Counselling

As the formal sessions wound down, the day moved into its most personal phase: one-on-one counselling sessions, where families could sit down with CUC’s admissions team to map out specific pathways – whether that meant the Foundation Program, a direct degree entry, or the Global Scholars Program – based on each student’s individual goals and academic background.

A defining feature of Open Day 2026 was its depth. Families exploring CUC’s full range of offerings were able to learn about the Foundation and Degree Program pathways alongside the Global Scholars Program, which allows students to begin their degree in Colombo and complete it at any of Curtin’s campus* – graduating with the same internationally recognised qualification, plus access to a A$15,000 scholarship for eligible students.
