Outline
Civil engineers are the backbone of modern society, designing and constructing the infrastructure that shapes our world. From buildings, bridges, highways, harbours, and dams to irrigation systems, water supply networks, and municipal infrastructure, civil engineers play a central role in creating safe, sustainable, and innovative environments.
At Curtin University Colombo, our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil and Construction Engineering prepares you to become a highly skilled professional who can meet the demands of today’s smarter, more complex built environment.
Throughout the course, you’ll build expertise in,
Structural analysis and design – understanding how to design safe and efficient structures.
Geotechnical engineering – working with soil, rock, and foundations.
Transportation engineering – designing sustainable road, rail, and transport systems.
Hydraulics and water resources – managing water supply, irrigation, and flood control.
Construction and project management – leading large-scale infrastructure projects.
Environmental engineering – developing solutions for sustainable development.
In your final year, you’ll integrate your design, construction, and management skills into a capstone civil engineering project and complete a major research project, preparing you for professional practice.
Professional Experience
Before graduation, you’ll undertake extensive industry experience through work placements, or a combination of technical and non-technical activities. This ensures you graduate with the confidence, skills, and networks to succeed in the workforce.
