The Curtin University Colombo Alumni Excellence Awards celebrates the remarkable achievements of Curtin University graduates who continue to make a meaningful impact in their professions, communities, and the world. These awards recognise individuals who exemplify the values of leadership, innovation, integrity, and global citizenship – core qualities that reflect the spirit of Curtin University.
Through this initiative, we honour alumni who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in their chosen fields, contributed to positive change, and served as role models for current and future students. The Curtin University Colombo Alumni Excellence Awards is not only a celebration of success, but also a testament to the growing influence and strength of the Curtin alumni community.
Join us as we acknowledge and showcase these exceptional individuals who continue to uplift the reputation of Curtin University locally and globally. The awards are open to all graduates from Curtin, or those who were part of the Curtin/SLIIT franchised degree program.
Winners of the Curtin University Colombo Alumni Excellence Awards will also be eligible for the prestigious Curtin Alumni Awards, offering them the opportunity to gain recognition on a global stage.
Award categories
Professional Excellence Award
The Professional Excellence Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have excelled in their respective fields, bringing distinction to the university through their achievements.
Nominees will be evaluated based on the following selection criteria:
- Nominees must demonstrate exceptional accomplishments in their industry, profession, or field of research.
- The nominee promotes and facilitates innovation, demonstrates dedication to industry, and perseveres through challenges.
- The nominee has made a significant positive impact on the social, economic, political, and environmental challenges facing communities locally, nationally, and/or internationally.
- The nominee has demonstrated outstanding personal success by significantly improving their organization’s performance or advancing the impact of their profession.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award
The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have demonstrated exceptional excellence in research, innovation, creative thinking, and technology. This award highlights individuals whose pioneering work has made a significant impact in their field and beyond.
Nominees will be evaluated based on the following selection criteria:
- The nominee’s achievements enhance their reputation within the community and elevate recognition for their profession.
- The nominee exemplifies excellence in research and innovation.
- As a visionary leader, the nominee demonstrates creativity, dedication, and courage in pioneering new areas within their field.
- Their contributions to the community serve as an inspiration for future graduates and the broader society
Leadership and Global Impact Award
The Leadership and Global Impact Award honors outstanding alumni who have excelled in their chosen field, bringing prestige to the university through their achievements. This award recognizes individuals whose leadership, influence, and contributions have made a meaningful impact on their profession, community, and the global stage.
Nominees will be evaluated based on the following selection criteria:
- Accomplishments that enhance their professional reputation and elevate recognition for their field.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities across various contexts, including volunteering, community engagement, or professional work.
- Contributions that inspire future graduates and positively impact their communities.
- Strong leadership in influencing decisions in government, industry, or advocacy efforts.
Nominations & selection process
Eligibility for nominations
- Each award category is open to all graduates of Curtin University or Curtin/SLIIT franchised degree program.
- Alumni may nominate themselves.
- Nominees should fill the online nomination form
- Nominees do not have to be working in the same discipline from which they graduated.
- Alumni who are current staff, sessional staff or former staff of Curtin University Colombo are eligible to be nominated. Alumni who are staff at other universities can also be nominated.
Nomination process
- A nomination is complete only when all the following items are submitted:
- A completed nomination form through the official CUC web page.
- A written statement addressing selection criteria for the award category.
- Updated current curriculum vitae and a recent photo of the nominee.
- Additional supporting evidence such as awards, media clippings, electronic media footage, etc. are optional but strongly recommended.
- Two non-related referees (full name, email, contact number, job title, employer and relationship to nominee).
- A referee report to support your nomination form.
- Any incomplete nominations will not be considered for the awards.
Judging panel
- Once all nominations have been received and recorded in our database, a selection panel of internal stakeholders convenes to shortlist applicants for each category.
- Shortlisted nominees are then considered for the final selection by the judging panel, which consists of a cross section of representatives from the Cutin University Colombo and the university’s community and/or stakeholders.
- The judging panel reserves the right to issue no award in a particular year. The decision of the judging panel is final, and no correspondence is entered into.
Terms & conditions of entry
- In these terms and conditions (the “Terms and Conditions”), “we”, “our”, “us” or “University” means Curtin University Colombo.
- Nominations are open to graduates of Curtin University or Curtin/SLIIT franchised degree program.
- Alumni cannot win more than one individual award in any calendar year.
- Alumni cannot win the same award category more than once.
- The University reserves the right to withhold any award or decide not to grant an award in any category at its discretion.
- Nominations must include the names and contact details of two referees who may be contacted to verify the details of the nomination.
- The University’s decision is final on all matters related to the nomination process, winner selection, and award distribution. No correspondence will be entertained.
- Personal information submitted by nominees in connection with the awards will be disclosed to members of the award judging panel for the purpose of evaluating nominations.
- Nominees are required to keep the content of their nominations confidential.
- The winning nominee’s name, image, and statement may be published and/or used in any form of university media in any context pertaining to the awards, and the nominee consents to such use and disclosure.
- Award recipients will be announced via email, social media, and the University website after the event.
- Winners consent to having their stories and photos published in awards-related promotions, media releases, and on the Curtin University Colombo website.
- Nominees’ personal and contact information will not be disclosed publicly but will be updated in the internal Curtin University Colombo alumni database for future communication.
- Alumni awards are not transferrable
- The nomination application must be completed through official CUC web page.
- By submitting a nomination, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
